Mia St. John, 135.5 vs. Jenifer Alcorn, 135
Mia
entered the ring first---included in her corner was Fredia “the
Cheetah” Gibbs and Mia’s mother. Alcorn made her appearance
shortly thereafter, with trainer/husband working her corner.
Both boxers appeared to be relaxed and ready to fight….In the
first round, Alcorn and Mia wasted little time in mixing it up
and the fight turned into a slugfest. Within about 20 seconds
into the fight, Mia slipped to the canvas, and it looked like
Alcorn was over-powering Mia at that time. (Mpeg of the slip
on records site,
gallery 51). In the second round, Alcorn and Mia
continued to fight toe-to-toe, but in the later part of the
round, Alcorn was throwing multiple combination and caught Mia
in the corner. Mia weathered out the 2nd round, and
did not appear to be hurt from the attack. (Mpeg on Records
site of 60 seconds of the 2nd round,
gallery 51). Most
of the rest of the rounds was a slugfest between the two with
Alcorn ultimately winning with a unanimous decision. Alcorn
remains undefeated with a 16-0-0 (10KO), and St. John is now 27-3-1
(13KO). Final judges scores was 78-74, 77-75, and 77-75. WBAN
asked St. John how she felt about this fight with Alcorn in a
post-fight interview. St. John said, “Out of my 31 fights this
was probably my favorite fight aside from Christy. Fighting
Jenifer was such a challenge and truly a wonderful experience.
The crowd was on their feet the whole time and found it as
exciting as I did. The fight was an overall success! I went
into
Fresno
sparked a little controversy, we sold A LOT of tickets and
fought our hearts out. My job is complete. I couldn't be
happier. I'll be fighting again in June and hopefully will
rematch with Christy sometime this summer.”

In front of a packed house of 1,500 boxing fans, with standing room only, Jenifer
Alcorn, 133 ½, won a very close 10-round split decision over
Jessica Rakoczy, 134 ¼, for the 135-lb lightweight IWBF World Title.
Craig Ogawa who was ringside at the event reported to WBAN that Alcorn had
received a cut on her forehead, from an apparent accidental headbutt, and
had a nose bleed early in the rounds. There were no knockdowns, but the
fight was "tremendous". In the Fresno Bee, staff writer Andy
Boogaard wrote that Alcorn coming into the fight with a "soft"
14-0 record, remained unbeaten after her first bout against a
"legitimate" foe. Boogaard reported that Rakoczy "howled in
agony" not from Alcorn’s red gloves, but from the judges decision.
Judge Ralph McKnight scored the fight 98-92 for Rakoczy., Marty Sammon and
Terry Smith had it 96-94 and 98-92 for Alcorn. Alcorn is now 15-0-0, and
Rakoczy suffered her first loss with 12-1. Article

Jenifer Alcorn, 132, TKO2 1:40 Sue Mullett, 131, in the second round.
Alcorn remains undefeated with a 13-0-0 (9KO). Mullett is 7-7-0
(4KO). This was for a WIBF
Lightweight title belt. It is unfortunate that the WIBF has slipped
in some of it's credibility after having so many inferior matchups
for supposed world titles.

January 17, 2002 - Bakersfield, California
At the Centennial Garden in the semi-main event, Fresno's Jenifer
Alcorn, 133 3/4 lbs., fought a Lightweight six-rounder with Lisa
Lewis, 133, and won by a unanimous decision. Alcorn remains

California defeated crosstown rival Lisa Lewis by unanimous decision in a
match which drew a standing ovation from the crowd. There were no knockdowns
though the fight seemed close to ending when Alcorn unleashed a stunning
barrage of punishing shots that lasted the entire 2nd round." (Final
scorecards: 59-55, 59-55, 60-54.) Ogawa said that there was some
pre-fight talk in the media about a grudge between the two women that my
have been a bit of media hype. Ogawa said that according to Alcorn's
husband, Brad, that the "prediction" was misquoted, and that what
she actually said was that she goes for a knockout. Brad said,
"As a team, we train for a knockout. We don't want it to go to the
judges."
November 15, 2001 Bakersfield, California
Jenifer Alcorn, 133, went to 10-0 won by an easy unanimous
decision over Shakurah Witherspoon, 128. All three judges scored the

partially off. The top was reattached between rounds and the fight
continued. Witherspoon was in trouble again in the second round and
managed to pull the top down again. At that point, the top was
repaired in the corner and taped and the fight went the distance from there.
