Pamela Barker, Henderson, Nevada vs.
Terry Cruz of
Denver, Colorado fought to a 4-round draw. Cruz won
the first two rounds, and apparently it was not a
great fight for Barker. Barker is now 5-0-1, and Cruz
is 1-2-2.
Background of Barker
Pamela Barker,
a new fighter on the scene in 1998, made quite a stir do to the fact that
she was immediately compared with the looks of Pamela Lee, but having the
flair of the Mayweather clan, which was due to having Floyd Mayweather,
Sr. as her trainer. Pamela, at
5’6", and weighing in the 115 range, lives in Henderson, Nevada.
She is a single parent, and raises her young son.
Prior to boxing, Pamela was training in
Muay Thai kickboxing, and had a record of 11-1. She trained with Master
Toddy and Master Chan at the "Master Toddy’s Muay Thai Center"
in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Pamela did not have an easy start in making
her pro debut, when Universum Box Promotion brought her to Germany to
fight WIBF Flyweight champion Regina
Halmich in Cologne on March 7, 1998. Pamela went to Germany and
during a press conference it was revealed that she had only been
kickboxing. Needless to say, when it was discovered that Barker would be
making a pro debut, they said that they would not allow Barker to fight
Halmich. As Barker’s father told WBAN, "Pamela’s warm welcome she
received was now over. She was treated so bad it was to make her
cry."
Pamela next experience was equally not to
be something that she would have expected. On April 4, 1998, she was to
make her pro debut in San Salvador, El Salvador. The fight was a
six-rounder, and it was declared an exhibition fight. The fight was in
front of 17,000 spectators. |
