Terri ‘Road Warrior’ Blair came home for the sweetest of
homecomings, when she successfully defended her IBA welterweight title against
Sumya "The Island Girl" Anani.
This was a rematch for Blair and Anani, when Blair had won in a
stunning tenth round TKO of Anani two months earlier in Indiana---a
neutral venue for both boxers. In that first fight with Anani, some
may have thought Blair's win was a fluke. However, Blair
proved in front of her family, friends, and all that attended this
night, that it wasn’t a fluke at all – not by a long shot--- when
she knocked Anani down, not once or twice, but four times, once in
the fifth round and three times in the ninth round, before referee
Bobby Dixon stopped the contest with one second left in the round.
Weights: Blair, 141 - Anani - 143.

On the undercard, Junior
welterweight Terry Blair, won a split decision over Molly McConnell, in
a six-round bout. Final judges scores were 59-55, 58-56, and 56-58.
This was a rematch for the two when they first fought at the Emerald
Queen Casino, in Tacoma, Washington, where McConnell defeated
Southpaw Terry Blair with a four-round majority decision.
Photographer Mike Blair (no relation to Terry Blair) of
BoxingProspects.com told WBAN, "What a different fight between Blair
and McConnell this time around. While Blair's answer to the
difference this time around was that she spent time in the gym, she
was a different fighter. She did not simply stand in front of
McConnell. Instead she moved to her right so McConnell had to throw
farther to connect. What that meant is that a lot of the time
McConnell was off balance, and her shots, though some landed, did
not do as much damage. Blair kept her balance and tucked her chin
and pressed the action of the fight. On this night, Blair simply
looked stronger. She showed that strength in one of the late rounds
when she pinned McConnell on the ropes and landed some pretty fierce
combinations to the body." Mike Blair said that there was talk of a
third go around between these two and that it was an exciting fight.
WBAN will have an exclusive photo gallery posted on the member's
site soon! And Good Job to BOTH McConnell and Blair for putting on
such an outstanding performance!
April 2, 2005 -Emerald Queen Casino, in Tacoma, Washington, and promoted
by Brian Halquist Productions On the undercard, Junior
welterweight Molly McConnell, now 4-0-0 (1KO), Portland, Oregon,
scored a four round majority decision win over
Terri Blair, 5-8-1
(3KO), Louisville, Kentucky. McConnell won the first two rounds on all
three judge's cards because she was quicker and more accurate then
Blair. In the third, Blair settled down and used her jab to catch
McConnell and keep her a bit off balance. Blair won the third on two
judge's cards. The fourth round was very close. Blair and her corner
knew she had to have a big round, but McConnell once again returned to
the quick jab and then moved out of trouble. Blair maintained stiff
pursuit, but she did not move her head well enough to keep it from being
a target for McConnell's jab. One judge would give the round to Blair,
and score the fight a draw. The other two scored the fourth for
McConnell, one having the fight 40-36, the other 39-37. Photos and story
