from Team Mrdjovenovich2 In the All-women's boxing card, "World Title Wave",
proved to be a very entertaining card. The event was telecast on Webcast, via Pay-Per-View, through aringoftheirown.com.
The first fight of the
night featured Shelly Burton, 157.5, of Montana, vs.
Laura "Lady Ram"
Ramsey, 163.5, of Winter Haven, Florida. Burton was supposed to
fight Laetitia Robinson, but the Burton Team was notified just shortly
before boarding their aircraft, going to Edmonton, that Robinson dropped
off the card when she was not medically cleared, due to an injury to her
nose. They were told at that time that Burton would be
fighting Laura Ramsey. Ramsey taking the fight on a 72 hour
notice.
The Burton-Ramsey bout was set for 10 rounds and they were fighting for
the vacant WIBA Intercontinental Super Middleweight. The bout was
action-filled for the two, and both displayed toughness throughout the
fight. Burton won by a majority decision, with the judges scoring the
bout 97-93, 95-95, and 97-93. This was Ramsey's first loss as a pro.
The second fight of the night,
Chevelle “ Fists of Steel" Hallback, 129,
fought Belinda Laracuente, 129.5, for the WIBA Super Featherweight
title. There were no knockdowns during the bout. Final judges scores
were 98-92, 98-92, and 98-92. WBAN would like to see
Jelena Mrdjenovich
fight Chevelle Hallback for a world title, as this would definitely be
an exciting match for boxing fans to see. In the third fight of
the night it was “Bad News” for Lisa Brown, 120 3/4, when
Jeannine
"Heartless" Garside, 121 3/4, of Windsor, Canada, with only a 3-0
record, defeated her for the WIBA super-Bantamweight world title belt.
It was truly a battle of the southpaws. Garside surprised Brown with a
third round knockdown, where Brown took an eight-count. Garside, one of
the most exciting boxers to join the pro ranks is evidently following
the footsteps of her trainer, Margaret Sideroff. Sideroff won her first
world title in her fourth pro bout.in the main event,
Jelena Mrdjenovich, 128 3/4, of Edmonton,
Canada, fought Franchesca "The Chosen One" Alcanter, 129,
for the WBC/WIBF super featherweight title. Jelena effectively used her
jab and combinations, and 24 seconds of the sixth round, threw a left
hook to Alcanter's head. Alcanter fell to the canvas with the hard left,
and the fight was stopped by KO.
Rock and Sock Productions gets high marks for this very entertaining
card, and the webcast was very professionally done.
Rock & Sock Productions in association with KO Promotions and
Independent Jewelers put on this event.
There was two male non-title bouts on the undercard.

Elena "Baby Doll" Reid,
117, stopped Lakeysha Williams,
120.5,
with a single body shot to continue her quest for a junior bantamweight
world title on Saturday.
In an all-women fight card, Reid, 23, showed a full house at the Silverton
Casino what women's boxing is all about with a convincing performance over a
bigger but not stronger opponent.
"This was Elena's best performance," said Chris Ben, who trains Reid.
Using quicker combinations and a tighter defense, the left-handed fighter
Reid out-punched and never stepped backward against Williams (8-7-3) who
often fights at featherweight.
It was the second time they fought. In their last meeting Reid won by
unanimous decision two years ago.
"This was a much easier fight this time," said Reid (16-1-5, 5 KOs), who
fights out of Las Vegas. "The first time we fought I was the one moving.
This time she was the one moving and it was much easier for me."
Firing lead left hands and quick three-punch combinations, Reid snapped
Williams head back repeatedly. Williams tried to use her jab to keep Reid
from landing but was walking into right hooks.
In the fifth, a single left hand to the solar plexus dropped Williams who
writhed in agony. The referee Richard Steele counted her out at 1:59 of the
fifth round.
Williams, who fights out of Philadelphia, said she was at a handicap for the
fight.
"I think they should have given us more time to get adjusted," William said
regarding her arrival to Las Vegas the day before the fight.
Reid was exhuberant with her knockout victory.
"I love boxing," Reid said with many fans driving from Arizona to see her
fight.
Though Reid fought for a very small purse, it was a sacrifice she made to
get back into the ring.
"All I want is a chance to fight for the world title," said Reid, who seeks
a match against Mariana Juarez or Regina Halmich. "All my training is paying
off."
If there is any question about Reid's ability to fight the best in the
world, the always happy Phoenix native proved she belongs among the elite
prizefighters in the world and is willing to face anyone from flyweight to
bantamweight.
"I've waited for a long time for a chance to fight for the world title" said
Reid who came within a judge's decision of winning a world title against
Germany's Halmich last summer.
And about her victory.
"I love throwing those body shots," she said.
As Reid signed autographs for her fans, her trainer Ben looked at her and
gave a quick assessment of her victory.
"That was her best performance," said Ben. "She's seeing all the shots
coming and she's not getting hit any more."
The only shots Reid wants to take are world title shots.
Last week, a Southern California promoter tried to make a fight between Reid
and Juarez, but the Mexican fighter's team decided against it.
"It's hard finding fighters in her weight class that want to fight her,"
said Ben. "She always has to fight girls that are bigger than her."
No matter, Reid found the right combination to stop her taller and heavier
opponent.
"All of the training I do is paying off, the fights are getting easier,"
Reid said. Other results: Shelly
Burton, 158, UD6 over Elizabeth Kerin,
162; Aasa Sandell, 168, UD4 over
Bose Ljoala, 172.5;
Daria
Hill, 139, TKO5 over Angie Poe,
136; and Jennifer Salinas, 120, by UD4 over
Sharon Gaines, 121.
There were about 1,000 at the event. Jessica Rakoczy was featured as the
ring announcer. (Report by David A. Avila)

Middleweights Monica Nunez, won a
six-rounder by a majority decision over
Shelly Burton. Terry Insall of boxingkindom.com reported,
that it was the
third fight on the
Silverton Casino card. In the first round, Nunez presses the
action and they trade a couple of punches. In round two, Nunez
takes a few shots to the head, but gets behind her jab to back Burton
up. In round three, Nunez uses a stiff jab and hard right
hand to back up the Burton. And in the fourth round, Burton comes
alive and lands some good counterpunches. In the fifth round, Burton
slows just a little and Nunez finishes strong. In the first fight
of the night, was an four-round exhibition between
Elena "Baby Doll" Reid and
Vaia "Vicious" Zaganas. There was no scoring for this bout,
and they wore headgear.

Televised on “ShoBox” (Showtime) there were six
action-packed fights on the card.
The first five fights on the card were men’s boxing, which provided boxing
fans with toe-to-toe action matches. In the last fight of the night, a
women’s bout was featured between Shelly Burton and
Yvonne Reis. Burton
caught Reis with some good shots early in the fight, and after Reis took
two eight counts and being knocked down to the canvas with the first eight
count, the ref stopped the fight 1:59 of the second round. Burton won
by a TKO.
Showtime announced their “history first” when they said that Amy Hayes, the
ring announcer on the "ShoBox" card was the “first ever” woman announcer to
don a Showtime card. There was a host of ring card girls that were models,
from the Swank Model agency, “Boom Boom” Mancini was a special guest who
signed autographs at the event.
