    Fight Report:  Wyman Wins by a Split Decision over Martin, and Prouder Wins by a fourth round TKO over Bambi Bertoncello

INGLEWOOD (FEB 1, 2002) At the Hollywood Park Casino, with a packed house of over 1,300, and promoted by Anthony Lewis and Pete Hironaka of Cant Lewz Entertainment had an action-packed night of fights that featured two women’s bouts as the co-main events, and four undercard bouts with men’s boxing.

In one of the co-main events, Jo Jo Wyman, 126, won by a close split decision over previously undefeated Karen "Natural Born Thriller" Martin, 125, in a scheduled six-round featherweight bout. Both Wyman and Martin wasted little time in taking the fight to one another. Wyman was knocked down in the fourth round by Martin, and took an eight count but did not appear to have been affected by it.

Martin remained the aggressor, and effectively cut off the ring at times, but Wyman was able to counter-punch and reset herself in the ring. Final scoring by the judges was 57-56 (Martin), 57-56 (Jo Jo) and 58-55 (Jo Jo). Wyman improved her record to 8-3-1, and Martin blemished her pristine undefeated record to 5-1-0 (4KO).

The second women’s bout and co-main event, Jr. Lightweights Cynthia "Lady" Prouder, 129.5, of Los Angeles, faced Bambi Bertoncello, 129.5, of Bellview, Washington in a scheduled six-rounder. The fight ended after the third round, when at the very end of the third round, Prouder had Bertoncello on the ropes, very near her corner.

As the bell rang, Bertoncello slumped into the seat of her corner, and appeared to be very upset. Bertoncello’s trainer/manager Kirk Jensen threw in the towel and the fight was considered a TKO in the fourth round. Prouder improved her record to 7-9-1 (1KO), and Bertoncello fell to 3-4-0 (1KO).

On the undercard, the first fight of the night was between four-round Jr. Welterweights Vatch Wartanian, Las Vegas, TKO4 2:52 seconds, Eddie Estrella, Moreno Valley in a four-round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Wartarian improved his record to 2-0-1, 1KO), and Estrella dropped to 1-4;

In one of the best men’s matches of the night four-round Light-heavyweights Gabril Thorli, Fisbury Park, England TKO3 :39 Troy Holiday, Los Angeles. Thorli improved his record to 2-2-0 (1KO), and Holiday remains winless as this was his pro debut;In a six-round featherweight bout Michael Links, Hollywood, California won by a unanimous decision over Roberto Mitchell of Mexico City, final 58-56, 59-55, 58-56. Links improved to 4-2-1 (1 KO), and Michell dropped to 1-2 (1KO); and what was over before it started, in a scheduled four-rounder cruiserweight Darrius Watson, Carson landed a right cross that put his opponent Robert Green, Los Angeles, down on the canvas.

The fight ended 12 seconds into the first round. Watson remains undefeated at 3-0-0 (3KO), and Green fell to 1-2 (1KO).

There were many boxing celebs on hand at this event that included Fredia "The Cheetah" Gibbs; "Pocket Rocket" Wayne McCullough with wife and manager Cheryl McCullough; Marsha Valley; Laura Serrano; Wendy Rodriguez; Henry Tillman, Dwain "Tyger" Williams, Alex Garcia, IFBA former World Featherweight Sandy "The Shark" Yard; IFBA World Featherweight Champion Layla McCarter; even Laila Ali’s husband / manager and promoter Johnny McClain of Absoloot Boxing, was present to push their new boxing facility opening on February 15 in Las Vegas.Some tidbits of what the women boxers said...Fredia "The Cheetah" Gibbs said that she will fight ANYONE! She wants a belt and she will step in the ring with whoever it takes to get it….Layla McCarter said that she is definitely fighting at the Sky Ute Casino, in Colorado on April 16, whether Sandy Yard takes the fight or not…. Marsha Valley said she is also wanting a belt fight, and is on the prowl to get one! Juli Crockett, the new up and coming boxer who got all the bad publicity after her mismatch with Jocelyn Grace…wants to tell her story to WBAN and that will be coming up in the next week or so…Laura Serrano said she does not have a fight at this time, and was suppose to fight in January, but it did not work out. . Lastly, I met up with a new boxer Jawana "Hollywood" Smith, who just began training, and works out in the same gym as Karen Martin.
