After the fight, Byrd took the microphone and announced her retirement.  In an action-filled bout, and crowd pleaser, Layla McCarter, 141.4,  won by a six-round unanimous decision over Victoria Cisneros, 146.4 - Final judges scores were 55-58, 56-59, and 54-60;  Monica Lovato, 116.2, won a six-round split decision over Sharon Gaines, 116.6. July 15, 2003 -Playboy Mansion, in Beverly Hills, California, on an ESPN2 card, and promoted by Gary Shaw Promotions
Jo Jo Wyman, 129.5,  won a six-round unanimous decision over Laura Serrano, 129.5.  Wyman dropped Serrano in the second and fifth Round. Final judges scores were 58-54, 58-54, and 57-55...Also, in a four-rounder that was televised, Mary Jo Sanders won a four-round unanimous decision over Cynthia Prouder with a 40-36 shutout.  The Wyman and Serrano fight was not televised as time had run out, in fact took place AFTER the main event..but the Sanders/Prouder was televised. Another interesting sideline to this card was Mia St. John was host as a "roaming reporter" for ESPN2.

April 18, 2003 - The Palace, Lemoore, CA
In front of a packed audience,  at the
Palace Indian Gaming Center, in Lemoore, California, had a night of women’s boxing, mixed in with a heavyweight contender Michael Grant, who fought Gilbert Martinez.  The first fight of the night was between Isra “The Raging Beauty” Girgrah, 128, and Laura Serrano, 124.  The two fought in a toe-to-toe battle that ended in a controversial  eight-round split decision for Girgrah. The boxing fans met the decision with a loud sound of “boos.”  Serrano, took the Mexico flag and ran through the audience after the decision was announced.  Girgrah delivered Serrano her first loss as a pro boxer.  Final scoring was 79-73 Serrano, and 77-75, and 78-74 Girgrah.     The second bout of the evening was  featured Sumya “The Island Girl” Anani, 141,  and Fredia “The Cheetah” Gibbs, 140.  Even before the fight began, Anani stared across the ring at Gibbs,  and shuffling her feet as if she was ready to spring in action at the ring of the bell.  Gibbs was also hyped and when the bell did begin the first round both boxers immediately began throwing leather.   There was some holding throughout the first round, and they were non-stop until the end of that round.  But it was learned shortly there after that Gibbs may have experienced a fractured hand and the fight was halted.  Anani won the fight by a TKO.  The third night of the fight featured Grant and Martinez. Their fight ended in a win for Grant by a TKO in the later rounds.  Then the ESPN2 cameras stopped rolling as the next women’s match was to take place between Nina Ahlin, 101.5, and Vaia Zaganas, 104.  It was a very entertaining fight and it was unfortunate that it did not make television. WBAN did tape the fight.  Vaia Zaganas wond the fight with a final scoring of  59-55, 59-55, and 58-56. The last fight of the night was another women’s match, that could have easily been named the “fight of the night.”  Layla McCarter, 134, of Las Vegas, took on local boxer from Fresno, Lisa Lewis, 133.  It was the classic boxer against puncher.  McCarter was slick as she slipped punches by Lewis who is also one tough fighter!  The six-rounder ended in a unanimous decision for McCarter.

February 7, 2003 - The Palace, in Auburn Hills, Michigan
In front of 12,123 witnesses…ah, I mean boxing fans, Mary Jo Sanders, daughter of former Detroit Lions star Charlie Sanders, made her pro debut against well-established "tomato can" Willicia Moorehead. According to the local Detroit News and certainly no surprise to WBAN they reported that Sanders had an "easy time of it in her pro debut, knocking out hapless Willicia Moorehead (2-12) in the first round." The news sources went on to say, "Moorehead, who struggled to throw simple punches, was down twice before referee Frank Garza stopped the fight." Another sad day in today’s sport when these inept matchmakers and people that have their "own agendas" in the sport continue to put these mickey-mouse matches together…In a second women’s match, Windsor Canadian Kara Ro, stopped Julia Day in the fourth round, and had been knocked down three times, and lost a point for excessive holding. Ro remains undefeated at 2-0-0, and Day is now 3-3-0.  (Source of news: Go Here)

March 22, 2002 - Celebrity Theatre, Phoenix, Arizona

July 8, 2001 - Texas Station, Las Vegas, Nevada
Laura Serrano, 130,  won a close majority decision against Chevelle Hallback, 130, in a six-round junior lightweight bout.  It was a toe-to-toe fight from the first round to the last. There were no knockdowns, and Serrano received a cut in the fourth round by an accidental headbutt. Her head was checked by the doctor, and the fight continued. Judges scoring, 57-57 58-56 59-55.  Serrano improved her record to 11-0-2.  Hallback dropped to 5-3-0 (4KO).  Another women's bout was between Jessica Rakoczy,134, and Imelda Arias, 136.5. Rakoczy won the four-rounder by a unanimous decision with final judging of 40-36.  This was the 100th show on Fox Sports Net, and the commentators said that it was the best female fight they have ever seen.
