WOULD JOCELYN
GRACE HAVE TAKEN THE FIGHT WITH CROCKETT IF SHE KNEW MORE
ABOUT HER?
RENO (DEC 2) Last Friday night, 20-year-old Jocelyn Grace made
her pro debut. Grace was to fight Juli Crockett, who was also making
her pro debut. Grace lasted 1:10 seconds of the first round with
Crockett. Before the fight was made, Grace’s team and the
matchmaker was told by Crockett’s Trainer and manager Phil Paolina
that Crockett was 0-2 as an amateur, getting knocked out in her last
amateur fight. BUT, after the fight, Grace’s team found out that
Crockett was ranked #7 with USA Boxing; and that Crockett was listed
with a 7-1 record and was a U.S. National Amateur Boxing champion
according to Fiona Manning’s interview that she had conducted with
Crockett on January 26, 2001! WBAN will have more on this story
posted soon! Sue TL Fox
SO
"IS" SHE THE REAL DEAL....AH... A US NATIONAL
AMATEUR CHAMPION? ONLY HER TRAINER APPARENTLY KNOWS FOR SURE....
On January 26, 2001, Fiona Manning, a
former writer for Secondsout.com at the time wrote an interesting
article about Julie Crockett...or is that Juli Crockett?
In this article it gave some pretty good stats of this young lady...
A three time U.S. National Amateur Champion, a 7-1 record as an
amateur. Since WBAN ran this story about Crockett who is
ranked #7 as an amateur with USA Boxing, WBAN has been receiving
some VERY interesting mail from folks that know quite a bit about
amateur boxing. I asked Liz Mueller's team about this, Andrew
Macy told WBAN, "There is no Way Juli won USA, three times.
That would mean that she beat Liz in 1999." I asked Macy
what does this ranking mean in terms of being #7 with USA
Boxing. Macy said, "All you have to do is show up at the national
tournament, less than 10 boxers, then you're ranked."
WBAN also consulted "Ask the Trainer" Tom Moraetes who not
only trains amateurs, but also trains world-class pro boxers.
Moraetes didn't waste too many words about these US National
championship claims, "Sue, Total BS." So the
final question is this, and maybe Phil Poalina or Julie Crockett may
want to address, What IS her record and background?
CASE IS CLOSED - CROCKETT IS NOT A
THREE-TIME U.S. AMATEUR NATIONAL BOXING CHAMPION
JULI CROCKETT's trainer, Phil Paolina, has clarified that
Juli Crockett is NOT a three-time U.S. Amateur National boxing
champion as STATED in a January 2000 article on Secondsout.com. He
told insidewomensboxing.com, that "Crockett won her class in
the Blue and Gold tournament but did not win any other national
title." WBAN confirmed this very prestigious claim
earlier today after contacting several reliable sources that Juli
was never a U.S. Amateur National boxing champion. Also,
Tom Moraetes did some checking for WBAN and said, "Juli Crocket is ranked currently by USA Boxing at
#7. She entered the USA Boxing National this year at Camp
Lejeune,
North Carolina, and LOST her FIRST match in the tournament to Anca Neagu of Austin, Texas
13-11. Anca lost her next match, Amber Gideon won the tournament.
There were SEVEN women entered in the tournament, she was ranked
#7." A special thanks to Tom, and others who tried to
set the record straight on these issues.
INTERESTING
TIDBITS OF BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON THE CONTROVERSIAL JULI
CROCKETT WHO HAD A MISMATCH WITH JOCELYN GRACE
by Sue TL Fox
December 5, 2001
WBAN found an online radio INTERVIEW
that Juli Crockett had given and is posted on the internet that took
place in September of 1999. Crockett talked about what
was wrong with the sport, and gave an example of women who could not
box being placed in matches...Juli said, "There are promoter's
who will THROW WOMEN in with NO TRAINING, and NO EXPERIENCE, fresh
out of NO WHERE, if the woman will put the gloves on---they WILL
THROW HER IN and have her fight and then you get which adds to this
kind of raw hysteria quality." Juli sounded pretty knowledgeable
about what can happen with greenhorn boxers----hmmm, does Jocelyn
Grace ring a bell? ALSO in this radio interview,
Crockett spoke about a fight she was having in an Indian
Casino. Juli talked about being featured as the MAIN EVENT.
In substance, Juli said in this interview how she was their #1
promotional tool, and that she was fighting the #1 amateur in the
sport, but that no one knew that she was actually the favorite. Juli
said that she thought it was funny to do that, not let people have
any clue as to how she can box, and that she can walk on, no one
knowing who she was, and as she so bluntly put it: "I'm
going to kill her." By the way, Juli LOST that fight to
Krysti Rosario in the MAIN EVENT at some CASINO. (Next question
is: Was this an amateur fight or a pro fight in the
casino?) TO
HEAR THE RADIO INTERVIEW - 1999 There was also an
article that her mother wrote about Juli, after Juli won a
fight in 2000. Juli's mom said in that article "they
awarded Juli Crockett the title, National Women's Champion."
Her mom wrote about her experiences with Juli at the Blue and Gold
Open Invitational Amateur Boxing Competition. Her mom went on to
talk about how sly Juli was to have her opponent underestimate
her. Juli's mom said, "at the weigh-in Juli showed
up wearing big fuzzy slippers, jammie pants, a sweat shirt and
glasses, looking sleepy and scrunching her shoulders so she looked
smaller than her 132 pounds." Her mother described how Juli
kept up her theatrical performance even at the fight, and ultimately
Juli stopped her opponent in that particular match. FULL
