Vickie Woods had a draw with Jeanne Martinex. Report by Larry Haik:
I had the pleasure of working the corner for Vickie
"Hurricane" Woods. Vickie has fought some of the toughest
women out there and always brings a fight. For not sparring prior to this
bout, not having a fight for about a year, in addition to taking the fight
on short notice, she put on a fantastic performance. I have nothing but
respect for Vickie. Arriving alone to fight a home town favorite, with a
cornerman she has been in the opponents' corner too three times in the
past---IT TOOK COURAGE! The bright side of this is that she was not dealt
a loss but a draw. Vickie knocked Jeanne "Boom Boom" Martinez
down in the first round, where Martinez received a ten count, and
saved by the bell. Woods also had her in trouble in the second round (in
the corner - defenseless) again saved by the bell. Woods backed Jeanne up
the entire fight and followed directions well. Jeanne had two other times
that landed her on the canvas but were not called knockdowns and were
slips. Final scoring was 59-57 Woods, 57-56 Martinez, and 57-57 for a
draw. Congratulations on your victory Vickie Woods! From LA-41 Boxing

Gray’s Armory, Cleveland, Ohio
Vickie Woods vs. Sabrina Hall,
Eight Rounds of action - Grafton’s Sabrina Hall
and Vickie Woods from Chattanooga, Tenn., staged an
eight-round slugfest. When it was over, the judges
split three ways so it ended in a draw. Hall won a
disputed decision when they met last year. Another Female bout on the card:
Stacy Dingus
vs. Bonnie Wheery:
Stacy Dingus of Cleveland collapsed in the ring
after losing to Cleveland’s Bonnie Wheery where both
fighters were making their pro debut. Dingus
went down from an overhand right to the head and the
bout was halted 28 seconds into the first round by
referee Carlos Pender when he determined it should not
continue. Dingus, 28, slumped to the
canvas and needed medical attention. Ringside
physician Dr. Jaymez Diggs said she suffered
"head and neck trauma." She was conscious as
she left the arena on a stretcher.

On June 25, 2000,
at the
Majestic Star Casino/Trump Hotel Casino in Gary, Indiana,
Sumya "The Island Girl" Anani defeated Vicki
"Hurricane" Woods, from Tennessee, in a
six-round unanimous Decision. Anani
was knocked down in the first round, and more than likely the first
time in her career. The fight was a show-stopper and Woods did
a great job considering she had about a 24-hour notice to fight
Anani. According to WBAN's Inside Reporter, Woods was also knocked
down in the last 5-10 seconds of the sixth round. Anani
remains undefeated, and Woods record dropped to 8-9-2. |
